Frequently asked questions.

What is Life Coaching?

In Coaching, we believe that the client has their own answers and wisdom within themselves. The coach’s role is simply to help the client access that wisdom and help the client remove any barriers (whether mental or practical) from creating the life they want to live. I see Life Coaching as an opportunity for deep inner growth and a space to explore stuck or limiting beliefs which can get in the way of living with greater joy and freedom.  Coaching provides a partnership between the Coach and client which is based on deep listening and thoughtful inquiry.  Life Coaching is not about getting direct advice, mentoring or therapy.

What should I expect from a life coaching session?

A typical Coaching session begins with the client exploring an issue which is creating nagging thoughts or a sense of being stuck.  The direction of the Coaching session is always focused on the client’s desired outcome. You bring to the session what is on your mind and we create an objective (often a small step or shift). Then we explore ways to work around that issue. At the end of the session we return to your objective to see where we have potentially exposed a new approach or thought process.

Doing this work is not about quick fixes.  It is a process of uncovering and discovering how you want to live and experience your most authentic life/self. One of the realities of this type of work is accepting some discomfort and possible change, which can be challenging but is also deeply rewarding.  Life Coaching sessions are private and confidential.

How is Life Coaching different from therapy or mentoring?

While therapy generally focuses on past life experiences, Life Coaching is focused on the present and future. In Life Coaching, we do not delve into the past. We focus on where you are now and where you want to go. Our work is to figure out what thoughts or patterns may be blocking you and how to develop tools to support you in reaching your goals. In Coaching we focus on your underlying thoughts and identify physical or emotional “signals” which become your guides. Unlike mentoring and therapy, in Coaching, the Coach will not offer advice or analysis, but will help you uncover your own inner ability to discover what decisions and actions work best specifically for you.

How many sessions should I sign up for?

I offer several different Coaching packages and scopes of time. Ultimately, it is the client’s choice of which package best fits their needs. However, I believe that no truly transformational life work can be done in a very short amount of time. Making change requires time and commitment. I encourage you to consider what option best supports your needs as you work towards your goals. If you have questions or concerns about the plans or fees, I am happy to discuss the options with you.
